2 Aus Zeitungen

The Washington Post (Dec 26, 1943):
"NCR: Buys Allen Wales Co."
Purchase of the Allen Wales Adding Machine Co. by the Natinal Cash Register Co. was completed in New York recently. Under terms of the purchase which was approved by Federal District Court in Cincinnati, National acquires 100 per cent of the capital stock of Allen Wales.
Throug purchase of Allen Wales, National supplements its line of cash registers and accounting machines with an adding machine and low-priced bookkeeping machine. The plant of Allen Wales, which currently employs about 600 persons, will continue to operate in Ithaca. In terms of volume of business it is one of the smaller companies in the adding machine field but has always been recognized as building a quality product.
In commenting upon the purchase, S. C. Allyn, president of National Cash Register Co., said, "We have long felt the need of an adding machine to round out our line of record-keeping equipment. Allen Wales machines are known for their high standards of quality and we believe will fit in very well with our methods of distribution. With broader distribution, it is only natural to expect the demand for Allen Wales machines to increase after the war. At the same time the addition of these machines to our line will enable us to give more thorough coverage from a distribution standpoint when peace returns."
The Allen Wales plant is now engaged in war work and is manufacturing adding machines under War Production Board restriction. The National Cash Register Co. is doing war work and building accounting machines under War Production Board restriction. However, both plants will resume normal productions of their regular products after the war and expect an active market for the cash registers, accounting machines and adding machines which will then represent their combined production.

New York Times (Oct 28, 1949):
MOVES AGAINST U. S.
Cash Register Out to Sell Adding Machines Under Own Name
CINCINNATI, Oct. 27 — The National Cash Register Company today has asked the Federal Court to permit it to sell adding machines under its own name and to enter into agreements with dealers and distributors.
The plans are opposed by the Attorney General in Washington, on the ground they would violate a court order entered Dec. 7, 1943. The order was issued as a result of litigation in connection with the purchase of stock of the Allen Wales Adding Machine Corporation.
The cash register company seeks modification of the order to permit it to sell adding machines under the name "National."
United States District Judge John H. Druffel notified the Attorney General to show cause within twenty days why the petition should not be granted. The adding machine business was operated as a separate division after being acquired from Allen-Wales.
