Abb 5d: Originalzeichnung eines Details der Analytic Engine von Babbage : The picture is just the mechanism of a clock . Nothing to do with the Analytical Engine by babbage.
That is funny. This Picture is in fact a clock, but nevertheless its origin is an essay by Babbage: "On a Method of Expressing by signs the action of machinery", in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, 1826. Babbage uses it to describe the motions of the various components of a clock. A German Translation of this essay (including the clock image) can be found in Dotzler 1996.
