Inhaltsverzeichnis

1 Life

James L. Dalton was a successfull businessman, he expanded the hardware store of his in-laws to the largest department store in the Mid-West, when, in January 1902, Hubert Hopkins showed him an interesting typewriting adding machine. Impressed by this machine he founded the Addograph Manufacturing Company in St. Louis in December 1902.
In 1903 Joseph Boyer (American Arithmometer) tried to take over this company (and its patents!) with the secret aid of Hubert Hopkins. To save his investments, Dalton founded a new company: the Adding Typewriter Company in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The company later changed its name in Dalton Adding Machine Company.
