This patent describes a difference engine, developed by the Swedes George and Edward Scheutz, from 1837 to 1853. "Nits, comte de Barck" should be read as "Count Nils Barck" (there is no estate called "Barck"). On the 9th of May, 1856, so a year after this patent was granted, the patent was renewed in the name of George and Edward Scheutz. It was not until May 1857, that the French patent was completely safe in the hands of the Scheutz's.
