"Statistical-machines; counters actuated by electric and magnetic means; registering difference of positive and negative actuations.- In a record-card-controlled statistical machine each numeral is represented by as many perforations in the card column as there are units in the numeral, and sensing rollers co-act with an electrically conducting surface through the cam perforations so that as many impulses as there are holes in the column are sent to electromagnets controlling the counting and printing mechanism."
